GreenDare.com has reduced its carbon footprint. Because southern Michigan is not an ideal location for solar panels and wind farms, GreenDare.com utilizes carbon offsets to decrease our carbon emissions. With the help of Carbonfund.org, TerraPass and CO2Stats, we have reduced our impact on the environment. GreenDare.com has purchased over 70 metric tons in carbon offsets for 2008.
GreenDare.com has partnered with
Carbonfund.org to offset the majority of our carbon footprint.
GreenDare.com has offset 70 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions with
Carbonfund.org. The 70 metric tons is a reduction of our traveling
commute emissions and it represents the carbon offsetting of the shipment of
our products to our customers (shipping companies obviously impact the
environment as well). Carbonfund.org is a non-profit organization and
offers the most inexpensive carbon offsets. GreenDare.com has invested
in renewable energy to reduce our global impact.
GreenDare.com is also sponsoring clean energy and carbon
reduction projects through
TerraPass.
TerraPass.com has offset an additional 3 metric tons
for us. Even though GreenDare.com is an energy-efficient company (yes,
we use compact fluorescent lights and only use electricity that is actually
needed), there are times that we can't avoid using electricity.
TerraPass has offset our unavoidable electricity use, which is most likely
generated by coal-burning power plants. TerraPass allows you to buy
only the carbon offsets that you need to purchase (no minimums to buy).
CO2Stats
has a cool widget that can be placed on your website or blog. It
estimates the electricity used by a website visitor's computer and the
website's server and converts that electrical estimate into a carbon
emissions estimate. Through advertising support, CO2Stats is able to
purchase the corresponding carbon offsets. GreenDare.com utilizes this
wonderful carbon counter (you can see it to the left). The use of the
CO2Stats carbon counter allows GreenDare.com to offset our server's required
electricity as well as the electricity use of all of our website visitors.
We encourage everyone to check out the above resources to find out more
information on how you can reduce your impact on the environment and give
future generations a better Earth.
